Support and advice

HM Forces Learning Partnership

We lead the HM Forces Learning Partnership, designed specifically for military personnel looking to advance their career or change direction. We share a common aim with the colleges and military transition units we work with: to provide service leavers with the best possible opportunities for transition into civilian life.

Your learning pathway

hmforces-pathway-deviceWhatever your current qualifications, we will be able to cater for you. HM Forces Learning Partnership, enables you to join the pathway at any level. We will first assess and recognise your prior learning. You may then enter the Pathway with a partner college and progress towards university, or you might come straight to university.

Routes via college

As leaders of the HM Forces Learning Partnership, we work in partnership with Kelvin, City and Clyde colleges to give you the best possible options when choosing a course to study. Whether you are considering a trade, profession, or simply a stepping stone towards your chosen degree, our partner colleges can help. Glasgow’s Helping Heroes are also an integral part of our partnership, and can offer you further support when considering your options.

At GCU, a large number of our undergraduate students have gone to college before beginning their degree course with us. We have an extensive range of full-time and part-time undergraduate courses to choose from and the advice and support you need to make university your next or future challenge.

Whether you have been offered a place at GCU or have yet to apply, our college connections can help you get where you want to go.

A practical learning experience

Our strong links with leading employers and professional bodies help ensure that our students are offered relevant work placements and internship opportunities. Many of our programmes include work placement modules and we encourage study exchange opportunities across the University.

Industry insight

As a GCU student, you will benefit from guest lectures and campus visits from those leading the way in your chosen field. We hold internal and external events on campus and continue to invest in our surroundings and programmes in order to attract top names from around the world.

The GCU campus is geared towards providing you with real-life practical experience. We have some unique facilities within our own grounds including an out-patient eye clinic, virtual hospital, broadcasting suite and gaming lab.

International outlook

Our students are encouraged to look within and beyond these shores when considering their future careers. We aim to make you global citizens and offer ERASMUS placement schemes where students can complete part of their studies, usually up to a year, in one of our partner universities.
