Louise Shanks

Lecturer in Social Work
Louise read social policy at the University of Glasgow. During her undergraduate degree Louise ran a sexual health project in Mozambique for three years and was also involved in other outreach work with young people in Glasgow. She subsequently worked in residential child care with young people with complex needs, before completing her Masters in Social Work at GCU.

Post-qualification, Louiseā€™s experience centred round statutory children and families social work and child protection. Whilst in post, Louise received a distinction in her Postgraduate Certificate in Child Welfare and Protection at the University of Stirling.

Louise has worked with a number of service user groups throughout her career, including asylum seekers and refugees; vulnerable adults with experiences of homelessness, addiction, offending and poor mental health. Her primary research interests lie within children and families and also, asylum and immigration.
