Dr Bryan McCann

Bryan is an active researcher interested in a range of sport and exercise psychology topics, in particular the social influences on motivation in sport and exercise contexts. He gained his PhD in 2018, exploring the role of coaches, parents and peers on athlete motivation during development. Bryan has gained funding for research and teaching activity from a range of funders and is an active journal reviewer and a member of the BPS Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology Committee.
Prior to joining GCU, Bryan was a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and led a range of innovative and award-winning projects including the Aberdeen Youth Games and the RGU GO: India initiative. Bryan is experienced providing psychological support to a range of national, international and Olympic level athletes and teams in different sports, including football, golf, swimming, table tennis and skiing. Bryan also has experience providing consultancy for organisations such as the Scottish FA, The Camanachd Association, Scottish Swimming and Sport Scotland.
