Brian works within The Institute of Applied Health Research. He is a member of GCU’s Substance Use and Misuse team led by Dr Carol Emslie. This multi-disciplinary group focuses on a number of issues including gender and alcohol, alcohol-related violence, smoking cessation, substance dependence, and drinking across the lifecourse. Brian is also a member of GCU’s Parenting and Family Support Research Programme. This programme is led by Dr Kerri McPherson and has a focus on intervention research aiming to prevent social, emotional, behavioural, and health problems in children by enhancing the skills knowledge and confidence of parents.
Before joining GCU, Brian had a successful career as an accountant and worked in both private and public sectors. He obtained his accounting degree at the University of Glasgow in 1996. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). In 2013 Brian obtained with distinction a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at GCU. He is also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (MBPsS).
