Adult nursing is a dynamic, rewarding and highly skilled caring and compassionate career. You will develop diverse skills ranging from the delivery of health education for individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds to delivering complex care for people with multiple acute or long term conditions.
This programme aims to develop nurses who are able to deliver person-centred, safe and effective care, working with other professions and agencies in an ever-changing and complex healthcare environment.
You will experience a variety of clinical placements and will learn using a diverse range of techniques and approaches. You will undertake clinical practice for 50% of the course, in community and hospital placements as well as independent and voluntary sector experience.
During placements, students are involved in nursing activities including providing care for a range of patients relevant to their chosen nursing pathway.
GCU's learning environment provides innovative, flexible and effective opportunities to develop understanding and nursing skills, using methods such as a blend of online and face-to-face teaching and a state-of-the-art inter-professional simulation suite.
On successful completion of the programme, graduates are eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Graduates are equipped to apply for a wide range of positions in the NHS, working closely with patients, clients, service users and carers, and also leading in management and research.

All entry requirements listed here should be used as a guide and represent the minimum required to be considered for entry. Applicants who are made a conditional offer of a place may be asked to achieve more than is stated.
BSc (Hons) Year 1
SQA Higher: BBBB including English and preferably a science subject plus Nat 5 Maths and a Science at C
A level: BCC preferably including a science subject, and GCSE English language, a Science and Maths at C/4
ILC Higher: H2 H2 H3 H3 including English and preferably a science subject, plus Ordinary Level Maths at 02
IB Diploma: 24 points including a science plus English and Maths
College HNC: HNC: Science-based HNC will be considered. Applicants must have numeracy and literacy equivalent to National 5 level.
BTEC: Extended DiplomaApplied Science, Biological/ Biomedical Science or Health Care related at DMM. GCSE Maths and English at C/4 is also required.
Accepted as equivalent to one Higher as part of the overall grade profile of Highers required for entry. Any essential subjects at Higher should still be achieved in addition to the Foundation Apprenticeship.
Applicants are expected to have evidence of assessed study within the last 5 years. Selected applicants will be invited to attend one of our Applicant Days as part of the admissions process
Other academic and vocational qualifications
Each application to GCU is considered on an individual basis. If you do not have the typical academic entry qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant work experience and/or credits from recognised professional bodies, you may be eligible to enter this course via the University's Recognition of Prior Learning scheme.
Applicants whose first language is not English will normally be required to hold IELTS of overall 7.0 with 7 in each element except Writing which is 6.5
If you do not meet the English language requirements, you may be eligible for our pre-sessional English programme which is taught at our Glasgow campus.

For new international students, particular care is taken around our induction events which begin on 13 September 2019 to welcome you to the UK and GCU prior to the start of teaching. There will be a whole host of fun and informative activities taking place during this period, including campus tours, city tours and social events where you can meet other international students. Where possible, we encourage you to arrange travel to allow you to arrive in time to enjoy these.

*Total tuition fees for RUK students completing a three or four year degree are capped at £27,750.

Additional costs for fee paying students
Self-funded students are required to cover the cost of the following:
- Uniforms, approximately £15 each. The number of uniforms you require depends on duration of your course and can range from two to four.
- Occupational health checks and vaccination, approximately £200.
- Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. New applications cost £59. Updates to existing scheme record costs £18.
