The sponsor is the organisation responsible for ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place for the initiation, management and financing of the project. This is not the same as the 'funder', though the funder may wish to take on this role.
You must also include a letter from the sponsor that confirms their decision to take on these responsibilities. A favourable ethical opinion will no longer be granted by an NHS REC, unless this letter is provided. Where a sponsor letter is required, whether for a student or a member of staff, this must be countersigned on behalf of the University by an appropriate senior member of School staff (i.e. the Associate Dean for Research).
