Dr Karen Lorimer is a Reader in Social Science and Health, and sociologist, in the School of Health and Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. Karen is a member of the Sexual Health & Blood Borne Viruses (SHBBV) Research Group, and also of the Justice, Violence and Gender Research Group at the Glasgow School for Business and Society. Her work focuses on sexual wellbeing and holistic sexual health, including tackling gender-based violence and addressing inequalities. Karen has an interest in Amartya Sen’s Capability Approach, particularly how to apply this lens to the evaluation of sexual health and wellbeing interventions. She is a mixed methods researcher, with an emphasis on qualitative research.

Karen is Chair of the Steering Group for the Sexual Health Research Network (www.sexualhealthnetwork.org.uk) - a network for sexual health researchers in the UK (Twitter: @SHRN_UK). She is a member of the Scottish Government National Monitoring and Research Group for the SHBBV Framework (2015-2020), and a member of the Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on SHBBV. Karen was an inaugural member of the RSE Young Academy of Scotland (2011-2016) and was a member of the Global Young Academy (2013-2018). She is currently an Associate Editor of BMC Public Health.
