Des became a Registered Nurse too many years ago to remember and worked in a variety of clinical settings within general and psychiatric hospitals. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1991 from the Open University and his MSc in Management from Strathclyde University in 1997. An employee of Glasgow Caledonian University from 1998 he is now Assistant Head of Department. In the intervening years he has continued to teach in the undergraduate and post graduate nursing programmes, undertaken a number of consultancy and professional development programme in Nursing Leadership and Management within Scotland and lead and been part of a number of international projects in South Africa, Oman and most recently Bangladesh. He is presently undertaking his Professional Doctorate and is researching the utility of international clinical exchanges for undergraduate student nurses.
