Clinical practice plays a central role in the BSc in Operating Department Practice (ODP) programme, as it involves students spending 60% of their time working in operating theatres around Scotland. In order to prepare students for these opportunities, the lecturing team need to be up to date with all the latest developments in perioperative care, particularly the ever changing area of medical and surgical technology.
It is therefore a key part of the ethos of the ODP programme that all members of the lecturing team continue to practise in perioperative care. To this end, each lecturer works for at least one day each week in an operating theatre as a registered theatre practitioner. This provides our students with access to lecturers who have truly up to date clinical skills and knowledge, which they are able to use to ensure that the ODP programme keeps pace with advances in operating department practice as they happen.
Our clinical lecturers in Operating Department Practice include:
- Claire Lewsey
- Agnes Lafferty
- Kirsty McFarlane
