Claire Lewsey

Programme Lead, Operating Department Practice
Department of Nursing and Community Health
Claire trained as a Registered Nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, qualifying in 1986, and has worked in perioperative practice in a variety of hospitals in Scotland and England since then. Claire moved to Glasgow in 1995 and since then her career has focused mainly on the education of Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs). She helped to establish the first ODP course in Glasgow, in 1999, before moving to Glasgow Caledonian University as a lecturer in 2004.

She has been the Programme Leader for the BSc/Dip (HE) in Operating Department Practice since 2006 and is a Module Leader for several undergraduate modules. Claire continues to work in clinical practice for one day each week, both as a surgical and an anaesthetic practitioner, and this allows her to remain up to date with contemporary perioperative care.
