Joined academia after qualifying as a Scottish Chartered Accountant in 1984. Primary focus of teaching and research is within management accounting. Close links with professional bodies have been developed having been an examiner for CIPFA, and continuing roles in accreditation, learning quality assurance and chair of the expert advisory group for CIMA. Continues to teach on undergraduate, post graduate and professional management accounting modules. Research includes educational practice in accounting in the UK and abroad, management accounting applications to various sectors of the economy and oil and gas accounting.
