Natalia Farmer’s PhD research focused upon the tensions between immigration legislation and social work practice. She explored the barriers destitute migrant families with ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ (NRPF) encounter when attempting to access local authority support. She has provided written and oral evidence to the Scottish Governments Equality and Human Rights Committee, which informed the report, ‘Hidden Lives – New Beginnings: Destitution, asylum and insecure immigration status in Scotland’ (2017). She will develop this area of research with the RESPOND project to explore the multilevel governance of mass migration in response to the 2015 Refugee Crisis.
