Claire Dean

Lecturer in Broadcast & Online Journalism
Claire Dean began her career in 1989 as an Assistant Producer in the Current Affairs Department at Radio Clyde, making award winning documentaries. Then, after cutting her teeth as a reporter at Radio Clyde, she moved to Scottish Television, where she was a reporter and presenter for 13 years. In 2006, Claire set up her own media company and worked for a wide range of clients in the statutory, commercial and voluntary sectors. In 2008, she joined the Journalism Team at Glasgow Caledonian University as a Lecturer in Broadcast & Online Journalism. Claire has been Programme Leader for the Masters in Multimedia Journalism since 2012.

Claire's interest in Social Affairs began in her early career working on documentaries for Radio Clyde. This developed further during her time at Scottish Television, where she regularly produced series of features on social issues for Scotland Today. This has continued in her freelance work as a corporate producer, media trainer and consultant for many voluntary sector organisations.

Claire also has strong links with the police in Scotland and has worked on a wide range of projects for Strathclyde Police, Tayside Police, ACPOS and the Scottish Police Services Authority.

Business continuity is another area of interest and Claire has worked with businesses, local authorities and emergency services on media strategies.
