Clare MacKay

PhD Student
Having graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Entertainment and Events Management, and worked on a number of large-scale events including the World Pipe Band Championships, Glasgow’s Sport Relief Mile, and the 80s music festival Retrofest, Clare returned to GCU to complete an Msc in Social Research (Business and Management) before beginning her doctoral research. Prior to commencing her PhD, Clare worked as a research assistant to Prof. Gayle McPherson and Prof. David McGillivray of UWS on their consultancy research on the volunteers that went to Delhi from Scotland for the flag handover ceremony at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

 Current Research

  • Clare is currently working on her doctoral research which draws on Michel Foucault’s concept of discourse to analyse the discursive construction of the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Twitter.
