Eleanor is a Solicitor, Member of the Law Society of Scotland and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Eleanor is co-author of McManus and Russell "Delict-A Comprehensive Guide to the Law" (DUP, 2nd edn.) and has also authored the seventh edition of "Prescription and Limitation of Actions" (W Green, 7th edn.) (previously authored by Professor David Walker). The latter project was completed with the assistance of funding from the Clark Foundation for Legal Education. Eleanor is also the author of the chapters on "Breach of statutory duty" and "Prescription and Limitation" in "Delict" (SULI / W Green, 2007). She has published extensively in the areas of delict and prescription and limitation. She has a particular interest in legal issues surrounding historic abuse. She advised the Scottish Government's Civil Law Reform Unit in relation to prescription and limitation with a particular focus on victims of historic abuse and her published work in this area was quoted from in the Policy Memorandum which accompanied the Bill which subsequently passed into law as the Limitation (Childhood Abuse) (Scotland) Act 2017.
Eleanor gave oral evidence to the Scottish Parliament's Delegated Powers and Law Reform Committee in relation to the Prescription (Scotland) Bill in April 2018.
Eleanor has acted as a peer reviewer for several international journals. Her published work has been cited in a Court of Session judgment, in Scottish Government and Scottish Law Commission publications as well as in various articles and textbooks.
Eleanor has taught a range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has extensive module leadership and programme leadership experience. She also has experience of supervising and examining PhD candidates and chairing PhD examinations. She has been an external examiner for Law in a number of Scottish universities.
For many years Eleanor was a member and Depute Chair of the University's Senate Disciplinary Committee. She has also served as a member of the School's Quality Committee, its Equality and Diversity Committee and its Mitigating Circumstances Board. She is currently an Academic Disability Co-ordinator for the Department of Economics and Law, as well as being a member of the School's Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee.
