Patricia Collins joined the Department of Business Management at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), in 2007 as a Fashion Technician. Having initially trained as a tailor she graduated in 1994 with BA Consumer and Management Studies from GCU and embarked upon a career as a freelance Wardrobe Mistress and Designer. Drawing on her skills in tailoring and couture techniques Patricia has had the opportunity to work with all the major companies in the Scottish entertainment industry, including BBC Scotland and Scottish Opera. Whilst hugely challenging this provided Patricia with an extensive range of skills working on a variety of productions from live children's television shows to period dramas. Patricia also undertook commissions from individual clients creating bespoke garments. In the role of Fashion Technician Patricia is able to bring a wealth of knowledge to share with students on the Fashion Business programme. Not only does Patricia have experience in all aspects of garment production from pattern cutting through to complex garment construction, but she also has experience of working for individual and corporate clients, adhering to time and budgetary constraints.
