Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS)

GCU is a partner University to the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS). SGSSS gathers 16 Scottish universities into a partnership, offering every university various training, funding and study opportunities aimed specifically at the postgraduate research (PhD) level. The SGSSS is funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Scottish Funding Council.

SGSSS offer students access to research expertise in disciplines across social sciences and opportunities for internships and summer school courses.


Training opportunities


Most training opportunities will require a GradHub account. We encourage you to visit GradHub to register and access funding opportunities, training, events, internships and many more.


Social is a community driven platform that aims to facilitate and encourage communication, collaboration, and cohort building among social science researchers in Scotland. Check out Social to create your account and get connected.

Summer School 2020

This year the entire Summer School is being hosted online with 21 free events being held between June 9th and 11th. Head over to the SGSSS website here to see the full programme of events.

Registration for events will be open via Social to social science (and interdisciplinary too) research students between May 20th and June 3rd on a first come first served basis.

Update: All places are now fully booked however your can still register as there is a waiting list.
