Learning and Teaching Subcommittee

Terms of Reference

  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policies and procedures for the approval and monitoring and enhancement of the University’s taught provision both on and off campus.

  • To receive and consider the findings of Internal Subject Review reports, and Approval and Re-approval events including PSB accreditation reports and to ensure dissemination of good practice found.

  • To receive an annual report from each School on the effectiveness of their procedures in relation to the quality enhancement and academic standards of taught programmes, the implementation of the learning and teaching strategy and of the School’s actions to improve progression.

  • To monitor and evaluate student engagement with the University including the results of and the Schools response to Module Feedback questionnaires, the National Student Survey, the Student Barometer, the International Student Barometer and the Student Experience Project.

  • To consider analyses prepared by Academic Quality and Development on School Annual reports, External Examiner reports, , trends arising from the approval and review process and any other relevant matters which may from time to time arise as well as analyses of complaints and plagiarism by the Department of Governance.

  • To maintain and recommend to APC as appropriate, procedures for the recognition of prior learning, including experiential and work based learning.

  • To ensure the implementation of the QAA Quality Enhancement Themes.

  • To ratify the decisions of the recognition panel for the conferment professional recognition of staff achieving Fellowship through GCU’s Accelerate CPD Framework in teaching and supporting student learning

  • To recommend to APC any improvements to University policies which may arise from the deliberations of the Committee.

  • To act as the Steering Group for specific Learning and Teaching projects within the University as appropriate.

  • To prepare an Annual Report on its operation for the Academic Policy Committee.

  • To ratify the recommendations arising from the credit rating of employer provision through the University’s accreditation process
