Appeals, Complaints & Student Conduct

The Department of Governance is responsible for the administration of plagiarism investigation procedures, student discipline and the student complaints process.  The Department of Academic Quality and Development is responsible for the administration of academic appeals.


Academic Appeals

Code of Student Conduct

The Code of Student Conduct‌ focuses on the University’s expectations of positive student behaviour.  The Code of Student Conduct includes plagiarism and cheating which were previously included in the University Assessment Regulations.

The following proforma should be used by staff in reporting and referring breaches of the Code of Student Conduct for investigation:

Plagiarism

Minor Plagiarism Record Form - Appendix 6a
For use by HoD or equivalent in reporting the outcome of the investigation of a suspected minor offence of plagiarism.  Exemplar outcome letters for use by HoD or equivalent in infroming students of the outcome of minor plagiairsm investigaions are available by contact Department of Governance (sdc@gcu.ac.uk)

Major Plagiarism Referral Form - Appendix 6b
For use by HoD or equivalent in referring a suspected repeat or major offence of plagiarism for investigation by an independent plagiarism assessor.

Plagiarism Assessor Report Form - Appendix 6c
For use by independent Plagirism Assessors for reporting their findings following investigation of a suspected major offence of plagairsm. 

Discipline

Minor Disciplinary Breach Record Form - Appendix 7a
For use by Dean of School or equivalent in reporting the outcome of the investigation of a suspected minor disciplinary offence.

Major Disciplinary Breach Referral Form - Appendix 7b

For use by the Dean of School or equivalent in referring suspected major disciplinary offences for consideration and disposal by the Senate Disciplinary Committee.
