What is GGU Games On?

GCU Games On is an open online event to celebrate, explore and share experiences during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. It will run between 16 July and 8 August 2014.

Do you have to be a GCU student or member of staff to take part?

No, GCU Games On is open to everyone in Glasgow, the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.

Where is it happening?

This is an online event, the main activities will take place in our open learning environment. However we will also be encouraging activity on social media and in particular twitter through the use of the #GCUGamesOn hashtag.

Can I access GCU Games On on my phone or tablet?

Yes, you can. The site works with all Android and Apple devices.  We recommend that you use an up to date web browser, our preferred ones are Firefox, Chrome and Safari. You may have some problems viewing all the content if you are using another browser.

What will I have to do?

GCU Games On has been designed as a fun way of bringing people together share their experiences during Glasgow 2014 and to enable people to experience a little bit of online learning. Each week we have a number of simple activities including a digital wishing tree where you can share your wishes for Glasgow 2014.  Over the three weeks you’ll also get the opportunity to win bronze, silver and gold digital medals.

How much time will it take?

It’s really up to you. You can spend as much or as little time as you want. Each activity is designed to take around 10 minutes.  However we hope that as our community grows you will want to take part and share thoughts and pictures of your experiences during Glasgow 2014.

Where do I sign up?

The first thing you need to do is register for the event at https://openeducation.blackboard.com/gcu.

You’ll need to have an email address to register and you will need to create your own user-name and password for the site (remember to keep a copy of them in a safe place).

Do I have to register to take part?

No, you could just follow the #GCUGamesOn hashtag, but you’ll miss out on the other activities we have planned and you won’t be able to claim any digital medals. So we would encourage you to sign up.  If you haven’t done any online learning before this is a great way to try it.

I am a GCU student/member of staff, can I log in with my GCU Learn username and password?

No, this is a different platform so you will have to create a new user-name and password.

When does it start?

Our online site will open on 16 July. However you can register for the event before then.  Before the event you might want to follow @GGUGamesOn on twitter, and look out for the #GCUGamesOn hashtag.

What is the GCU Games On Code of Conduct?

Just like the athletes at the Commonwealth Games we expect all our participants to sign our Code of Conduct. GCU actively promotes a culture of dignity, respect and equality in all our activities. We want everyone to enjoy a positive online experience. Therefore, we expect you to conduct yourself in a thoughtful, respectful way and behave appropriately online.
