GCU is a member of the prestigious international Santander Universities network, which brings together almost 1,000 universities, throughout Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the UK.

This strategic partnership between the University and Santander has created a range of opportunities for both staff and students to participate in a range of activities and to encourage exchange and interaction between members of GCU and other member universities of the Santander Universities network.

Santander MIT Tech Scholarship Programme

GCU students and alumni between the ages of 20 and 35 are invited to apply for one of 400 Tech Scholarships offered by Santander.  Given current global employability challenges, this is a great opportunity to enhance your skills and qualifications. 

The programme has been developed jointly with MIT, a world class institution known for its innovation, academic strength and global impact. The University has a robust entrepreneurial culture and is affiliated with a significant number of Nobel laureates, Fields medallists and Turing Award Winners. 

Specifically designed for students or alumni between 20 and 35, the 8 week online programme will provide specialist training in digital and technological skills. 

Successful applicants have the opportunity to choose one of the 4 Professional Certificate programmes noted below: 

  • Machine Learning: Technology applied to decision-making
  • Product design strategies: Platforms and Families
  • Blockchain: Technological Disruption
  • Cloud & DevOps: Continuous Transformation

Santander Travel Awards

Santander Universities Travel Scholarships of up to £1000 are available for existing undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD students and GCU Staff.

This scholarship could fund spending a period of time, a semester or a study visit at another university within the Santander network. Alternatively it could be for a work-related research project with a commercial partner or, for GCU staff, the scholarship can be used to enhance collaborative working within the Santander University network or attending work related conferences developing the awareness of GCU.

Internships for SMEs

GCU and Santander are offering an exciting opportunity for SMEs to take advantage of fully-funded internships by employing a GCU student or graduate on a fixed term project identified by your company. Santander Universities UK will provide employers with a subsidy of up to £1,260.

UHatch Entrepreneurial Support

Supported by Santander Universities, UHatch is GCU’s small business incubator and accelerator space. It is designed to assist entrepreneurial students, graduates and alumni in the development and growth of commercial and social enterprises/businesses. Working within UHatch gives you the opportunity to access detailed knowledge, increase your network of contacts and receive support in a number of other areas.

Who can Apply

Any student who is in their second year upwards, or to young researchers in the early stages of their academic careers. Applications from any discipline and from any part of the University or for almost any kind of proposal that will help individuals to reach their dreams are welcome.

However, judges will be especially pleased to receive applications from areas relating to any of Magnus Magnusson's personal interests, including the media, history, language, literature and the natural environment. Applicants must demonstrate achievement in their chosen area, and have a clear plan to take their work forward

Santander Seed Funding

UHatch and Santander are offering GCU students, staff and alumni (graduates of five years or less at applications deadline below) the opportunity to apply for seed funding to take their UK based business ideas to the next level. If you are at the early stages of starting your own business, why not apply for funding and support to turn your ideas into a reality?

Santander Undergraduate Scholarships

The Santander Universities UG Scholarship is designed to help school and college leavers looking to study any full time undergraduate programme.  It can help provide financial assistance to students during their studies. 

  • £1250 per annum throughout your studies. Funds can be used to help support costs such as books, travel, accommodation and materials / equipment.
  • Opportunity to access further opportunities from Santander Universities network.
