2021 Mike Smith Magnusson award

‌Diana was the recipient of the Mike Smith Magnusson Award in 2021 and used the funding to train over 150 healthcare professionals in Zimbabwe on basic foot care and screening for diabetic foot complications, with a focus on rural areas. The project’s aim was to equip these healthcare workers with the knowledge required to screen patients early and prevent severe complications, reducing the number of amputations. Diana also reached out to the public with social media campaigns and the distribution of leaflets advising on foot care.

I would like to thank the Magnusson Panel for selecting me to be a recipient of the Magnusson Award. This funding has allowed me to reach more people who require foot care and train more healthcare professionals in different regions in Zimbabwe and equip them with knowledge and resources that will allow them to educate themselves and their patients. The long-term goal is to reduce amputations and this is a step towards that goal.
