GCU Foundation secures £75,000+ in scholarships

2 November 2020‌

At a time when the need for student financial support is at its peak, the GCU Foundation has been successful in securing over £75,000 in new scholarships this month alone.

2020_Oh_PollyA total of 12 new scholarships have been supported by donors Oh Polly, the John Mather Trust and the Incorporation of Hammermen.

International fashion brand Oh Polly is supporting new creative talent through six scholarships for BAME students. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter campaign, Oh Polly is passionate about encouraging diversity within the fashion industry and offering opportunities to help level the playing field. In addition to an annual stipend, their student beneficiaries will also gain a paid work placement to develop valuable fashion and marketing experience.

The John Mather Trust and the Incorporation of Hammermen are both supporting scholarships for students who entered GCU via one of the University's Outreach initiatives. The John Mather Trust is supporting four student nurses as part of their aim to help young people in the west of Scotland achieve their full potential. The Incorporation of Hammermen, which has a long history of supporting trades and craftsmen in Glasgow, has donated funding for two engineering students.

The GCU Foundation would like to take this opportunity to express thanks to our Scholarships Adviser Andrea Butler and to the Outreach team for their support in ensuring that scholarships, such as these, are awarded to the most deserving students.
