Donors support widening access at GCU

GCU’s multi award winning Caledonian Club recently made the news, featuring on BBC One’s Reporting Scotland. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Glasgow Caledonian University Foundation, the outreach initiative is making an impact in five of Glasgow’s most disadvantaged communities.

GCU is proud to be a leader in widening access as one of only two institutions meeting the government’s target of having one fifth of students from a disadvantaged area. In fact, recent figures show that 23% of our Scottish full-time first degree entrants come from the 20% most deprived backgrounds, nine percentage points above the sector average of 14%.

Jillian Watt, Director of Glasgow Caledonian University Foundation said:

“We are grateful to our generous donors for helping to support students and local children to reach their potential. The recent statistics are evidence of our commitment to ensuring that talented students, regardless of circumstances, have access to a variety of educational opportunities, a commitment enhanced by our donors who share this belief.”
