Costing of Academic Courses

An Academic Programme refers to a named postgraduate or undergraduate award of the University which is part of the University Qualifications Framework.

A Continued Professional Development (CPD) Course is a course that is self-financing or developmental and either meets the needs of employers and their workforce or will improve the employment-related skills of the student or delegate.

For information and guidance for costing activity that is not an Academic Programme or CPD course please consult Research, Innovation & Enterprise.

Costing Academic Programmes

All potential academic programmes are evaluated on a consistent financial basis via the standard Academic Course Costing Model. The standard model should therefore be used to cost:

• New programmes
• Re-approval of, and revisions to, existing programmes (from August 2009)
• Collaborative programme delivery
• Distance/ Blended learning delivery programmes
Once completed the costing should be submitted to your Finance Business Partner for approval.

The costing of an Academic Programme forms an appendix to the Programme Proposal Proforma (PPP) available from the Quality Office. The approved costing must be attached to the PPP that is submitted to the Quality Office.

Costing CPD Courses

All potential CPD courses are evaluated on a consistent financial basis via the standard CPD Costing Model.

Once completed the costing should be submitted to your Finance Business Partner for approval.

If the client is an external client or organisation, Research, Innovation & Enterprise must be contacted as the proposal will have to follow the standard pre-award approval process.

Costing Conferences
All potential Conferences are evaluated on a consistent financial basis via the standard Conference Costing Model.

Once completed the costing should be submitted to your Finance Business Partner for approval.
If the client is an external client or organisation, Research, Innovation & Enterprise must be contacted as the proposal will have to follow the standard pre-award approval process.
