Understanding Unconscious Bias

All GCU staff can access the Understanding Unconscious Bias online course. The course introduces staff to the idea of unconscious or hidden bias, and how it can impact on the workplace. It gives staff the opportunity to think about situations where their unconscious bias might affect their ability to make objective decisions or judgements. The course aims to help staff understand:

  • That we are all biased
  • The subconscious nature of bias
  • That bias can impact all the decisions we make
  • How to manage bias

Diversity in the Workplace

All GCU staff can access the ‘Diversity in the Workplace’ online equality and diversity training course. Staff who complete the course will:

  • Be able to describe key features and provisions of equalities legislation
  • Understand broader equality and diversity issues
  • Know their responsibilities and rights as a member of staff of the University.

All staff are expected to complete the programme, which takes approximately 1 hour. For example, new staff complete the course as part of their induction programme; all managers have to complete the course as part of the People Passport programme; and managers have a responsibility to ensure that their staff undertake the course as part of their development.
