Summary of content

Following completion of this theory module, practitioners will undertake a skill based competency driven course. Therefore, the aim of this module is to develop the theoretical knowledge required to support progression on to a skills based course that enables Registered Healthcare Professionals to safely and independently conduct Gastro-intestinal endoscopy, in their chosen modality (gastroscopy or colonoscopy).
At the end of this module students will have the underpinning theoretical knowledge and understanding on the following - the frameworks applied to undertake detailed clinical history taking methods of obtaining informed consent for endoscopy IV sedation safety the skills of undertaking a diagnostic endoscopy legal/ethical documentation communicating findings from investigations recognising the implications of findings from investigations the theories of delivering 'bad news' and sensitive diagnoses and the role of the nurse endoscopist within a multi-disciplinary team.
