The team is also interested in emerging viral disease and potential routes of infection, in particular, Hepatitis E virus is the main interest of the group. The current postgraduate project underway is investigating the risk associated with Hepatitis E virus present in commercial shellfish sold in Scotland.
Currently, work is funded by the European Union and two projects are active:

Prof Scobie also consults for Aptalis Pharma Plc and Xenothera (INSERM) with regard to viral safety in porcine derived products.
