Chengke Zhou (FIET, SMIEEE, CEng) received his BSc and MSc in 1983 and 1986 respectively from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China. Having been awarded his PhD degree from The University of Manchester, UK in 1994, he joined the School of Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in 1994 and worked as Post-Doc Research Fellow, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer until August 2006 when he joined Heriot-Watt University as a Reader. In June 2007 he returned to GCU as a Professor.

Prof. Zhou’s research interests include Partial Discharge based power plant condition monitoring, statistics based modelling for power plant failure and condition monitoring data analysis, modelling and analysis of power systems for design, control and operation of future Smart Grid, with incorporation of renewable generations and electric vehicle charging load. He has acted as consultant to EDF Energy, UK Power Network and Scottish Power plc, and has been the Principal Investigator of a number of EPSRC and industry funded research grants. He has so far published over 140 papers including over 30 in world’s leading journals.

Prof Zhou is currently member of CIGRE working group D1.39. He has been invited to chair international conference technical committees, sessions and to make invited speeches in his fields.
