SMART Technology Centre (STC)

‌A SMART system is a cyber-physical-biological system that adapts and responds meaningfully to the context and environment in which it is located. ‌‌

The purpose of the STC is to advance fundamental theories, designs, methods, ‌processes and tools to build these systems.

The UK’s Industrial Strategy identifies four grand challenges: AI and the Data Economy; Clean Growth; Future Mobility and Ageing Society. The STC will contribute to accelerating the innovation and diffusion of industrial digitisation technologies.‌

The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) formed the strategic framework for GCU’s research since February 2017. The STC’s research themes of the Centre will be principally be aligned with (UN Sustainable Development) GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being; GOAL 4: Quality Education, GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
