My research examines the plight of people forced to migrate due to the impacts of climate change using a climate justice lens. Four coastal communities in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria were used as case studies. Informed by the capabilities-based approach to climate justice, data collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions on daily lives challenges indicate that factors constraining capabilities to secure and improve wellbeing are inherent on pre-existing social challenges but are exacerbated by frequent climatic events. This results in increased but differentiated vulnerabilities owing to entitlement failures and as such, envince issues of climate injustice.
