Claire Gordon - BSc (Hons) Building Surveying

Current position: Graduate Surveyor at Trident

Why did you choose your programme at Glasgow Caledonian?

I had an interest in pursuing a career within the built environment and the diversity of courses at GCU appealed to me.

What did you enjoy about your time at University?

When studying here I enjoyed the great atmosphere at the university; the lecturers have great enthusiasm for their subject and make an effort to be approachable outside the lecture theatre.

I enjoyed the practical project work involved in the Building Surveying programme.  The projects involved site visits to survey properties around Glasgow where you have the opportunity to see building defects and construction methods first hand and get a chance to try out survey equipment.

My best experience whilst doing my degree was the European Study tour in year two. It was a great! We visited Barcelona with three of the lecturers and fitted in lots of site visits within a week. I also enjoyed doing my work placement for Trident, which is the company I now work for.

What single word sums up your GCU experience so far?

What advice do you have for people considering applying to university?

I would say take the time to look into the courses and universities you are interested in to make sure you make the right choice for you. Don’t rush!
