Professor Ole Pahl is currently the Associate Dean Research for the School. He specialises in waste water treatment at Glasgow Caledonian University. He specialised in waste water treatment and related gaseous emissions for his PhD conducted at the University of Birmingham and Silsoe Research Institute. Previously Ole worked for Cranfield University, the Meat and Livestock Commission, and National Energy Services Ltd., mainly on projects concerning the implications of environmental legislation on business practices and on environmental standards. He has a strong interest in the identification of sustainable management and treatment options for biological wastes, primarily in the context of municipal waste water and agricultural / livestock residues. Ole carries out his research interest via secondment to in-house consultancy and KTP projects and, primarily, UK and EU funded research projects. He contributed to a number of research projects and has been primary investigator on projects totalling over £2.5M since joining GCU. His current research focus is on the management, abatement and reduction of pharmaceutical micropollutants in water, and of emissions from livestock production. Key techniques involved in this work are risk assessment, biological treatment processes (composting, anaerobic digestion), environmental monitoring (air, water, soil) and holistic source-receptor tracing of pollution pathways.
