Mohamed Emad Farrag is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Prof Farrag received his BEng(Hons) and MSc degrees in Industrial Electronics and Control Engineering from Egypt in 1990 and 1996 respectively, and his PhD from Northumbria University UK in 2002. Emad, has joined Northumbria University in 2008 as a visiting lecturer, followed by a research fellow in the Institute of Engineering and Sustainable Development at De Montfort University, UK. He has joined GCU as a lecturer in 2010, taking the responsibility as a programme leader, chair of the programme board, representative of the EEE department in the School Research Committee and now is serving the University Senate.

Prof Farrag is a Charter Engineer and Academic Accreditor at the IET, MIET, MIEEE and FHEA. He has many publications in distinguished journals and refereed conferences in the field of electrical power engineering and integration of energy storage systems into the smart grid. His research interests include artificial intelligent control application in condition monitoring and control of FACTS technologies. He has organised and chaired the UPEC2018 conference, invited speakers in many conferences and Colloquiums in power engineering.

Emad, is leading multi millions projects in capacity building funded by Erasmus+ with partners from Europe, Egypt and Sri Lanka. In addition to projects funded by the SFC, ETP. He is working with power industry companies like SPEN on a development projects for assessment of their assets.
