Dr Dong Chen

Dr Dong Chen, SMIEEE, joined GCU in 2016 as a lecturer in electrical power engineering group and is now a lecturer in the Department of Engineering.
He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical Engineering from Southeast University, China and Zhejiang University, China in 2006 and 2008 respectively. Following this, he obtained his PhD degree in electrical engineering from the Queen’s University of Belfast, in 2012. Since then, he worked as a senior designer in the institute of microgrid, Guodian Nanjing Automation, China (SAC) till 2014. In 2014-2016, Dr. Chen joined the Power Electronics, Drive and Energy Conversion team of Strathclyde University as PDRA contributing to an EPSRC project on DC microgrid. Dr Chen has published 6 papers in IEEE transactions and 2 in IET journals with a citation of over 800 in the past 5 years, one 1st prize best paper in IET conference on Renewable Power Generation 2017, one peer reviewed book chapter published by Springer and 2 patents. His research interests are DC micrgorid, future distribution power network and power conversion control in power systems.
