Professor Caroline Parker

Caroline has 20 years experience in applied research in the area of Human Factors in Advanced Technology with a specialism in agricultural information systems and decision support systems (DSS). Her specific research expertise lies in the area of user centred software development approaches and in the presentation of information to support decision making. Recent decision based research takes a step back from problem specific DSS work and looks instead at the generic issues facing non-expert users of decision support data. It investigates the presentation of uncertain information to non-technical users. Initial work suggests that it is possible to formulate generic rules for display type based on task characteristics and that these characteristics are common across domains such as medicine, finance, agriculture and control monitoring.
