Meet with a careers adviser

Following feedback from students, we have decided to offer you an appointment with your School careers adviser. If you would like to meet with a careers adviser for a Careers Clinic, Careers Appointment or Practice Interview, please use our online system to book your appointment with the careers adviser for your School as outlined below:

If you can’t keep your appointment, it is easy to cancel. Use the link in your appointment e-mail confirmation and free up the space for another student. It is important that you arrive on time to make full use of your meeting.

To book an Appointment, Careers Clinic or a Practice Interview you must first be registered with CareerHub. If you are registered, book by clicking here.
If you are not registered with CareerHub please register first by following these instructions:

To register as a student:

  • If you are a current student and did not opt-in to use CareerHub during student registration you can give your consent by clicking here. Please wait 24 hours for access to be given.
  • Once you have access you can login by clicking here.
  • Your username and password will be the same as your university username and password.

To register as a graduate:

  • If you are a graduate of the last 2 years you can register by clicking here (click ‘new user’ to register as a graduate).
  • Once you have access you can login by clicking here.

 How to book an Appointment, Clinic or Practice Interview:

Once registered please see below for how to book with a Careers Adviser:

  • Log into career hub by clicking here.
  • Click ‘Appointments’ on the tab at the top of the page or the ‘Book an appointment’ link in the middle summary box of the main page.
  • Choose a topic from the list of topics.
  • After choosing a topic you will see a calendar which shows available dates.
  • Choose the date that suits
  • Choose the time that suits and click ‘view appointment’
  • Book the appointment on the next page.

 

Careers Clinic

(open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, and GCU graduates of up to 2 years)

A Careers Clinic is a 15 minute meeting with a careers adviser to discuss quick or initial career related enquiries for one of the following:

•    CV
•    Covering letter
•    Application and personal statement
•    Job search (including graduate, placements, internships, and part-time jobs)
•    Recruitment (including interviews, assessment centres and tests)
•    Postgraduate study options / applications

To book the Careers Clinic you must first be registered with CareerHub. If you are registered, book your Clinic by clicking here.

If you are a GCU graduate within two years of graduation and wish to speak to a careers adviser for a Careers Clinic, please use our online system to book your appointment.

 

Careers Appointment (open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, and GCU graduates of up to 2 years)

A Careers Appointment (up to 45 minutes) will help with in-depth matters such as making an informed career decision, developing a job search strategy, discussing the implications of different options, or selecting appropriate employers to target. This could also cover:

  • Detailed review of only one of: CV; covering letter; application; personal statement or LinkedIn profile. Please bring a paper copy to your appointment.
  • Career options with my degree
  • Placement and graduate job search
  • Further study
  • Course withdrawal/change
  • Work and study abroad

 Practice Interview

(open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, and GCU graduates of up to 2 years)

A Practice Interview lasts for up to 45 minutes and is designed to give you the chance to practice your interview skills and receive feedback to help you to prepare for the real thing.

•    Prepare well by using the Successful Interviews leaflet available in the resources section on our website
•    Your appointment confirmation e-mail will tell you how to send a copy of your application and/or CV, together with details of the job you’re being interviewed for.  We require this at least 3 working days in advance to ensure that we can tailor questions appropriately.

Career Success

Career Success Poster

Career Success provides GCU students and graduates with many of the career preparation tools you need to succeed in today’s job market. There’s a fantastic range of video, audio and text based materials which you can view via computer, tablet or mobile phone. Learn more about graduate employment opportunities, how best to find the right job and how to prepare for that all important interview. Career Success will go a long way to help you maximise your potential and employability.

  • There are over 450 video resources across 21 topics that you can access with short tutorials, and these include: assessment centres; interview skills, questions and answers; salary negotiating; self-development.
  • In addition there are over 110 tutorials which are written templates, resources and guides covering topics such as self-development, self-employment and career management.

You will also be able to connect to CareerHub, which offers hundreds of live job opportunities: graduate jobs; placements; internships; part-time and voluntary jobs.

HigherEd Talent Portal

GCU Careers Service has a partnership with the HigherEd Talent Portal to offer over 400 live vacancies worldwide. Aimed primarily at students in our Glasgow School for Business and Society, these opportunities include graduate jobs, placements and internships worldwide.

Graduates First

GRADUATES FIRST offers you a wonderful opportunity to practice Verbal, Numerical, Logical Reasoning and Situational Judgement Tests, and there's also advice on how to handle Assessment Centres. You'll receive invaluable feedback and advice on how you performed, and it's all free - simply login with your GCU email address.
