GCU to host IT careers event for armed forces personnel

The event is aimed at armed forces personnel who are in the transition to civilian life and are interested in a career in IT

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), in partnership with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP), is hosting an event to raise awareness of IT careers for armed forces personnel.

The one-day event is aimed at British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel who are in the transition to civilian life (they have two or less years left before leaving HM Forces) and are interested in a career in IT and creative technologies.

Ronnie Beattie, of GCU’s School of Engineering and Built Environment, said: “This event is an opportunity for armed forces personnel to come along and get their questions answered directly by IT companies.

“We hope that it will enable them to convert their aspirations into a career in the sector by showing them the variety of jobs on offer and the training and professional qualifications that are available to them.”

GCU is an approved Armed Forces Transition Learning Provider through its partnership with CTP.

The event is part of the GCU and HM Forces Learning Partnership, a major education initiative that provides ex-servicemen and women with a pathway to employment via further and higher education.

The partnership, launched in August, is intended to address the fact ex-armed forces personnel, particularly those who leave the services after only a short time, may not consider further or higher education as part of their transition back to civilian life.

The IT careers day will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, September 10) from 9.30am to 3pm in the Govan Mbeki building.

To register to attend the event, visit CTP.
