GCU Games On off to a running start

GCU Games On is a fun way for people to come together to explore online learning and to share their experiences during Glasgow 2014.

GCU Games On is off to a running start, with almost 200 people from across the Commonwealth signing up to take part in the free online event. Designed and developed by the University’s Learning Enhancement and Academic Development team (GCU LEAD), GCU Games On is a fun way for people to come together to explore online learning and to share their experiences during Glasgow 2014.

Over the course of three weeks, users receive regular news updates on the Commonwealth Games, and are introduced, and encouraged to contribute, to social media. They also have the opportunity to receive bronze, silver and gold digital medals by taking part in a number of simple activities.

Sheila MacNeill, Senior Lecturer in GCU Lead, said: “We’re pleased with the level of interest that GCU Games On has conjured up so far – with users from as far afield as Australia, Canada and India – and we hope that more and more people will sign up as they get into the spirit of the Games when they kick off this week.

“Users seem to be engaged in the digital medal challenge – nearly half of them have already won the bronze digital medal – and we’re seeing a steady build-up of activity on social media and via our hashtag #GCUGamesOn.”

GCU Games On runs from Wednesday, July 16 to Friday, August 8. It is free to join and is available 24/7. Find out more and join in.
