Fix VFX launches digital visual effects workshop

Start-up visual effects company Fix VFX Ltd is visiting Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) to host a workshop over the summer.

The Glasgow-based company is using GCU’s high-tech facilities to deliver the intensive six-week training workshop on digital visual effects for the film and television industry, running from Monday July 11 to August 21.

Successful applicants to the course will potentially become employees for Fix VFX, on salaried year-long positions starting in the autumn.

The course was also open to GCU students who study 3D Design for Virtual Environments, and Computer Games, which encompasses games design, pre-visualisation for TV and film and video SFX.

Fix VFX’s training workshop, with Escape Studios, will specialise in Nuke and shot management systems.

Colin Kennedy, MD of Fix VFX, said: “Fix VFX Ltd aims to create a thriving visual effects industry in Scotland. A comparatively small amount of training can begin to unleash the potential of the highly skilled labour force being turned out by Scotland’s exceptional educational system, as well as opening up prospects for people looking to re-train for a career in VFX. This is in great part thanks to the innovative Screen Skills Fund from Creative Scotland, without which this training would not have been possible to put together.”
