A VISITING media professor at GCU has been appointed chairman of a group that aims to bring the magic of cinema to communities across Scotland.

Professor David Hutchison will aim to improve access to the cinema experience for people living in remote, rural, and coastal areas, in his new role with Regional Screen Scotland.

The development agency is backed by Scottish Screen and also receives funding from Highland & Islands Enterprise, Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar, and North Ayrshire Council.

As well as providing information and advice to communities, the group also operates the mobile digital cinema Screen Machine, which tours the west Highlands and Islands.

Professor Hutchison, a former Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at GCU said: “I am honoured to be taking over the chairmanship of Regional Screen Scotland.

“Our aim is to ensure that the real cinema experience is available to all of the citizens of Scotland, wherever they live. It is a challenging task and it will take time to achieve but it is an immensely worthwhile endeavour.”

Ron Inglis, Director, Regional Screen Scotland, added: “I am delighted to welcome David as Regional Screen Scotland’s new chairman and look forward to working with him on the diverse range of projects and activities that we are involved in throughout Scotland.”
