2015 Alumni Telethon Campaign

In February our students will be calling alumni to update them on life at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), letting them know about forthcoming events and hearing their feedback about our alumni programme. They are also looking forward to hearing about their experience at University and life after GCU. They will also be taking this opportunity to tell them about how they can get involved with the University and seeking their support towards the Caledonian Club, GCU’s multi-award winning widening participation and community engagement initiative.

Working across five Glasgow communities where progression rates to further and higher education are significantly below the Scottish average, and where up to fourth generation unemployment is not uncommon, the Caledonian Club seeks to challenge preconceptions and raise aspirations within our members and their families. The Club’s sector leading approach to widening participation has received numerous awards and accolades, the most recent of which was an MBE for services to community education in Glasgow for the Club’s Director, Mrs Eleanor Wilson – a real tribute to Eleanor and her team’s outstanding work in this field.

GCU is not funded to carry out this kind of activity in its entirety, but has dedicated significant resources to support the Club, and we are committed to maintain the core activity into the future. To date the Club has worked with over 9,000 pupils and 2,600 families delivering projects that equip participants with key life skills and the information they need to make informed future choices. But we want to do more. What we are seeking now is the additional investment which will allow us to increase the number of projects at nursery, primary and secondary school level as well as engaging further with parents and the communities.

If you would like to make a donation to our Caledonian Club appeal you can do so by using one of the following methods. By making a regular donation to the Club it will allow the University to plan for the long term future.
