“This award made it possible for me to fulfil my dream of traveling to Jamaica whilst working alongside other volunteers from all over the world. I was in the building project and I helped construct houses for those living in absolute poverty, helping improve their quality of life, as well as protecting them from the frequent tropical storms and hurricanes.

“I also took part in some outreach programmes which assisted in distributing food to the homeless and repainting primary schools that were in disrepair. It was a life changing experience to be able to utilise my degree and help those in need in a country as beautiful as Jamaica.

“Being presented with both an award and a scholarship at university has improved my confidence to a point where I will reach out and grasp opportunities, both in my career and personal life that I may not have previously done. I feel that these experiences have taught me some life lessons in which I can apply towards the progression of my career.

“GCU exceeded all my expectations of what university life would be like, as not only did I have a fulfilling educational experience but I also travelled the world, made lifelong friends and secured a job before even finishing my degree.”
