2020 BSc(Hons) Computer Games (Art and Animation)

Scott Rafferty

Why did you choose GCU?

I chose GCU because of the great reputation they had built for delivering high-quality courses that are at the forefront of software and technological developments across the broad 3D industry and not just in computer games.

How would you describe your experience at GCU?

My experience was fantastic. Coming from college into my second year of a degree at GCU was quite daunting, but the lecturers there were quick to offer support and encouragement not only on the practical side of the modules but also on the academic side. As my studies progressed I was able to interact with social groups and guest speakers who helped me develop as a person more.

What are your fondest memories of GCU?

My fondest memories were the great people you meet not only on the same journey as you but also the people who are teaching you. Having the opportunity to explore ideas with a team you would not be able to in a normal setting showed me how valuable the social side of university is.

How would you describe the quality of the teaching and support you received from GCU?

The quality of teaching and support at GCU is superb. Not only from the resident faculty staff but also from the support staff or guest lecturers they would bring in. Willing to go the extra step further for students who showed even the slightest interest in an area not being covered allowed so many different avenues to be explored not just by myself but by dozens of other students who felt the same.

Can you tell us how you coped with the transition to online learning during the pandemic?

The transition to online learning was tough but I was fortunate it happened in my final year. Not so fortunate to avoid massive disruption to my honours project but the social groups I joined and the friendships I had formed made it so much easier to study from home while at the same time socialising using online communication platforms to bounce ideas, and feedback and critical engagement.
