Dr Owen Sharp

Owen Sharp is Global CEO of the Movember Foundation, a charity with one goal: to stop men dying too young.

A graduate of GCU - he was awarded a BA (Hons) Nursing in 1995 - Owen is a respected leader in the healthcare and charity sectors. Starting his working life as a nurse in Glasgow, Owen took on a number of leadership roles at hospitals across the UK before he joined the charity sector with Victim Support in 2007. As its Deputy Chief Executive, Owen successfully led the merger of 77 charities to create one national body. Owen became Chief Executive of Prostate Cancer UK in 2011. Under his leadership, Prostate Cancer UK developed a new brand which helped to increase both the funds raised for and awareness of a disease that takes the life of one man every 45 minutes.

In 2015, he joined the Movember Foundation, the biggest global funder of men’s health initiatives. Since it was launched in Australia in 2003, Movember has been supported by more than five million participants. Their incredible efforts have funded more than 1200 innovative projects to tackle prostate cancer and testicular cancer and to support suicide prevention across 20 countries.

Owen is a passionate advocate for men’s health. Since his early days as a student nurse in Glasgow, he has believed that much more must be done to support improvements in the health of men.

Under his leadership, the Movember Foundation focuses on making a lasting impact on men’s health by driving global collaboration, empowering men to take more effective ownership of their health and continuing to be a disruptive force for sustained change.
