Douglas Dawson is a prominent British business leader with a 30-year track record of achievement and success within the UK and international engineering, manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Currently Chief Executive of Liberty Industries Group, he is also a member of the Strategic Board of the $7bn a year Gupta Family Alliance, a fast-growing global enterprise that includes the Liberty House and SIMEC groups; encompassing industrial, energy, shipping and commodities activities across 30 countries. A most notable recent investment being the restarting of the Dalzell Steel Works in Motherwell bringing steel making back to Scotland.

Originally from Glasgow, Douglas graduated in mechanical engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1982, began his career as Naval Engineering Officer reaching the rank of Chief Engineer, Class 1, at the age of 26 before moving on to take up senior management roles within industry. Since then, Douglas has enjoyed a distinguished career in a number of high-profile international roles. He subsequently founded Flow System Technologies, which designed, manufactured and distributed highly-engineered capital equipment and delivered associated engineering services for the marine, automotive, power generation and other industries. He grew this into a $60m a year business with operations in the USA and Canada.

Later, as co-owner of the Invicta Partnership, he built a strong reputation as a business-improvement and turnaround specialist, transforming major businesses in the automotive, utilities, healthcare and food processing sectors, helping to raise large-scale investment funding.

Douglas is passionate about providing opportunities for all young people who otherwise would be denied the possibility of excelling in a career in engineering and manufacturing, and has been instrumental in creating apprenticeship and scholarship schemes in the UK for students with the potential for higher education in engineering and industrial business management. In recognition of his impressive and sustained contribution to industry over more than three decades, Douglas received an Alumni Achievement Award from GCU in 2014.
