In his role as Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014, David was responsible for overseeing the running of the Organising Committee (OC) of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, ensuring that all aspects of planning were delivered on time and on budget.

Among his responsibilities were the sports programmes, monitoring the development of new and improved infrastructure, managing the staff of the OC (which rose to more than 1400 people by Games time) and the 15,000 volunteers throughout the 17 days of sport.

As Chief Executive, David also had a significant role in the OC’s external relations with the media, political liaison and commercial negotiations around sponsorship and broadcasting.

David joined the OC as the Director of Operations in October 2009 and progressed to Chief Operating Officer in July 2010. In these roles, David was mainly responsible for the planning, management and supervision of the Games Time Delivery, Corporate Services, Technology and Programme and Risk Management divisions.

Prior to joining the OC, David’s role was Executive Director of Sport and International Federation (IF) Relations at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), where he also served as Sports Director from 1999 to 2007. His responsibilities at the IPC, among others, included the overseeing of all activities associated with the development and delivery of the Paralympic Games sports programmes, National Paralympic Committee Relations Services, Village Operations and Technology. He was also responsible for overseeing the governance and management activities of nine sport bodies under the jurisdiction of the IPC, as well as acting as the lead liaison with numerous International Sports Federations and Major Games Organising Committees.

In November 2014, David took up the role of Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Commonwealth’s sports movement.
