Tell us about your time at GCU

Glasgow Caledonian University was renowned for being the 'friendly' uni with an incredible business school. Being a power wheelchair user, a little timid leaving the comfort of school. GCU provided me with welcoming tutors, students and allowed me to flourish. As well as academically, the student association helped me achieve my dream towards becoming a Paralympic athlete.

How has your career progressed since graduation?

Glasgow Caledonian University provided me a platform to pursue a dream of becoming a Paralympic Athlete. An initial bursary of 500GBP allowed me to participate in Portugal at the European Boccia Championships. I made my debut in 2005 before accomplishing my dream of participating at London 2012 Paralympic Games. Since then I have been privileged and proud to captain my country and become multiple European Champion, World Champion and 12 time British Champion in the sport. Without the help from GCU, the business skills which could be converted into the sporting arena, the confidence to achieve and strive for goals. Then my life would be so very different. GCU is a special education organisation which lifts the clouds of limitation.

Do you have any words of advice for current students?

Anything is possible, skills are transferrable. Strive for goals and you'll excel in life.
