Tell us in more detail what your role entails, what challenges you currently face, and how you are finding ways to cope.

I am currently working at the frontline of Pre Hospital Emergency Care which involves responding to all 999 calls to that patient with a sore throat or cut finger to those in respiratory distress or cardiac arrest, also reponding to those involved with severe trauma.

I am faced with close contact with everyone during this pandemic who has suspected/confirmed Covid-19 or those that are asymptomatic who are in distress or involved in accidents.

Current challenges we face are a constant dynamically changing situation. which we adapt to with our clinical judgement and evolving pathways for patient care. I am able cope by talking with colleagues about incidents and updated pathways, new procedures and appropriate Personnal Protective Equipment.

I have worked with the Scotish Ambulance Service for the last 20 years, Having worked during the swine flu pandemic of 2009, trust your training, trust your colleagues, and remember theere is no emergency during a pandemic. Always wear your Personnal Protective Equipment, your health comes first, be part of the health care system not the one using it. Stay safe.

Do you have a top tip for coping at a time of crisis? Or a few words of advice or support for fellow students and alumni on the front line?
