Chancellor Yunus Scholarships now open

Chancellor Professor Yunus

Chancellor Yunus Scholarships for the MSc in Social Business and Microfinance programme at Glasgow Caledonian University are now open.

The Masters degree, delivered by Glasgow School for Business and Society and the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health, gives students the opportunity to learn how change can be delivered in communities through the tools of social business and microfinance.

Launched in 2014, the programme has attracted students from countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Taiwan.

Emma Harris, an MSc Social Business and Microfinance student from Canada, was a recipient of the Chancellor Yunus Scholarship in 2014. She said: “The MSc programme provides an insight into theories behind the concept of social business, allowing me to translate my plans into action and create an enterprise of my own.”

Simon Teasdale, Professor of Public Policy and Organisations, added: "The programme provides students with the tools to critically evaluate the power of business and to implement positive social change in global environments.

“The opportunity to receive a Chancellor Yunus Scholarship allows students from all backgrounds to study at GCU."

The MSc in Social Business and Microfinance reflects on contemporary issues facing business and society, explores international and intercultural perspectives, and engages with international research to strengthen understanding of the global political economy, social business and the expanding microfinance sector.
